Liberty aka Centennial
This was the quilt that started Judy’s professional career as a quilter. She was named the Alaska winner of the Great American Quilt Contest (the “Liberty Contest”) in 1986. The quilt was featured in the exhibition “Expressions of Liberty” which toured in New York City and internationally from 1986 to 1989.
This quilt is included in an out of print book, All Flags Flying: American Patriotic Quilts as an Expression of Liberty, by Robert Bishop and Carter Houck. The book featured 59 quilts from 1800-1985 and all 51 quilts from the Great American Quilt Contest.
Quilt was started 8/19/85 and finished 11/22/85.
