Hide and Seek

This charm quilt appeared in Judy’s last book, The Big Book of Patchwork. This quilt and “Flying Geese” were deliberately made to “almost match” for the twin beds in Judy’s guest room. In one of Judy’s lecture, she said of this quilt “I started writing mystery patterns and conducting all-night mystery sewing sessions in 1989. Hide and Seek was the featured mystery at Calicoes and Quilts in Anchorage in the fall of 1995—by which time we were all getting older and were turning off the lights at midnight instead of 6 a.m. While I’ve designed more than a hundred mystery quilts, I seldom actually make them myself; this is one of the exceptions. I cut the quilt out in 1998 in a fit of enthusiasm after seeing an antique quilt in similar colors, and finished it five years later while I was waiting—and waiting—and waiting—for my granddaughter Elizabeth to be born.” Quilt was started 8/16/1998 and finished in 2003.
